Public Utility Company “Beogradske elektrane” is the youngest utility system in Belgrade. In 1989 the City assembly of Belgrade made a decision on restructuring “Beogradske elektrane” into Enterprise for public services. The PUC “Beogradske elektrane” possesses 55 heat sources of 3.000 MW capacity, more than 1.000 km of district heating pipeline and 6.500 substations. At the moment “Beogradske elektrane” are providing heating to 300.000 apartments and 9.000 business premises, with total floor area over 19.000.000 square meters. 83% of total heating sources use natural gas as fuel, 16% - fuel oil and 1% use coal. The heating season starts on October 15th and ends on April 15th. In the period as of October 1st to 14th and April 16th to May 3rd, buildings are exceptionally heated if in the latest Hydro meteorological Institute weather forecast of the previous day, or the first weather forecast on that day is anticipated that an average daily temperature will be bellow +12şC.

District heating system consists of 15 district heating plants: “Novi Beograd”, “Dunav”, “Vozdovac”, “Medakovic”, “Cerak”, “Miljakovac”, “Borca”, “Banovo brdo”, “Zemun”, “Mirijevo”, “Konjarnik”, “Visnjicka banja”, “Batajnica”, “Barajevo” and “Mladenovac”. 40 heating sources are individual block boiler houses.
